About the Collaborator
Founded in 1982 by Brigitte Burdin and Gilles Rhode, who oversee the Artistic Direction, Transe Express create magical and imaginative large-scale shows in unconventional spaces. Their productions are unique adventures that transform cities and invite the public to escape their everyday reality.
The company specializes in interventionist theatre and what they call ‘celestial art’. Their motivation is to provoke interaction with the public and to play with the urban surrounds.
They use all kinds of artistic media to express themselves; music, the visual arts, circus skills, fire, literature, metallurgy, opera, rock, dance and, of course, theatre. Each of these is a cornerstone of their philosophy to perform shows ‘with no boundaries’.
Transe Express are based in Eurre, in the Drome region of Southern France. “La Gare à Coulisses” is the name of their street arts base where they develop their creations. The team is made up of 100 actors, acrobats, bell ringers, dancers, percussionists, singers, string quartets, welders, technicians, forgers and many others; a motley crew that realises their ephemeral creations and repertoire shows, be they close-act theatre, aerial or roving spectacles.
