Intercultural Journeys
Dec 09, 1531 – Our Lady of Guadalupe Appears to Juan Diego
Intercultural Journeys presents highlights from the concert opera, Guadalupe: Our Lady of the Roses. Composed by James DeMars with libretto by James DeMars and Robert Doyle, Guadalupe emphasizes the themes of reconciliation, tolerance, nonviolence, and love between warring cultures. DeMars’ score uses Spanish, English, Nahautl, and Latin to present its themes. Academy of Vocal Arts resident artists, Diego Silva and Chrystal E. Williams, will be featured in the concert opera portion of this event, as will members of the Philadelphia Singers Chorale. Excerpts from the concert opera will showcase amazing percussion, strings, and vocals by both world-class professionals and student groups.
The evening will also present Latino themes with performances by the Dalí Quartet, Magdaliz Roura, and student groups from Esperanza Academy Charter High School and Artistas y Músicos Latino Americanos (AMLA). Intercultural Journeys’ Founding Artistic Director and Philadelphia Orchestra cellist, Udi Bar-David, has assembled an extraordinary group of artists for this exciting project.
